THE PRAIRIE COUNTY AVENGERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PERIOD DANCES...contact us for rates.

THANKS!
The Prairie County Avengers would like to humbly thank all of the folks who have supported us by coming to our performances
and purchasing our CDs. Tom and I would also like to thank Lori Morphew who spends many hours booking
our appearances and getting our CDs out to the more than 58 venues that sell our music. We hope to see everyone in 2008. We have many things working for 08', including a new CD, a new T-shirt and of course many Reenactment appearances.

We are exploring the possibility of playing at an Irish Festival in 08 as civil war period Irish performers.(more later) We have been working on our Irish stuff. Mr. Tom (Murphy) and meself, Preston (Sullivan and Freany) have Irish in our heritage. Many of the period songs from 1840-1890 are from Irish origins. They are always fun.

We have been asked to play at the Military Order of the Stars and Bars convention in Springdale AR. in May 08'.

The Avengers will play at the County Line in OKC Jan 20th SCV meeting

Avengers played at the Civil War Roundtable Dec 20th 2007

Avengers played at Fort Gibson fort- Heritage days 21/22 April 2007

Avengers played at the 145th Anniversary of the Pea Ridge Battle 2007 in Arkansas!

We played at the Yale reenactment in February 07. It was good to see our friend Pat Sawyer the Irish singer there.

The Prairie County Avengers were in a movie! We went on location and performed music
"around a campfire" for the movie Treasure Blind". The movie may also use music
from the CDs for background music. Go here to see the trailer.

Our music was also in another movie..."Mary Surratt: Mystery Woman of the Lincoln Assassination"

"The film was warmly received last October at the
Utopia Film Festival 2006 in Greenbelt, Maryland and was recently
selected for screening at the prestigious Womens International Film
Festival to be held in Fort Lauderdale in late March. The completed film runs about 45 minutes
and among the songs of yours used are "Dixie" and "Nearer my God to thee"
and "Soldiers Joy" - and a few others- I
can't tell you how beautifully they worked with the video, but you
guys are absolutely wonderful musicians. I'm prejudiced of course but I
think it turned out really well and tells an important story that has
never been told through a documentary before".

Avengers' album "Round the 'Ol Campfire" in the Southern Heritage

AVENGERS PLAYED AT OLD FT. WASHITA CANDLELIGHT TOUR
On Nov. 11th and 12th we helped out on the Candlelight Tour at the Fort.

PC AVENGERS PERFORMED AT OLD WASHINGTON
The PC Avengers played 6 minstrel/civil war music performances and also played for the Saturday night dance at the Old Washington
Living History Event- Nov 4th. 2006 In the photo below we were playing in the old court room in
the historic 1870 court house. The performances were well attended. Thanks to our friend Billy Nations
for inviting us! This old 1830's town is extremely interesting. If you have the opportunity to go you should.

The old Washington (GHOST) dance. The lady in blue jeans is a National Public Radio reporter (Sabrina) who interviewed us,
The fellow on the far right in the dancer pic is Josh Williams who called the dance. Thanks Josh ...great job. Notice all the ghost "orbs" in the photos

PRAIRIE COUNTYAVENGERS AT WICHITA KANSAS COWTOWN
The PC Avengers went to Wichita Kansas on October 14th and played up there in the old historic "cowtown" district. The FreeStaters and the
PC Avengers had a great time. Thanks for the invite! If you have never been to the Cowtown...go...its 25 acres of historic buildings and exhibits...fun.

WHAT ARE WE "UP TO"?
Well. Tom has learned the words and tune to the old version of Blue Tail Fly. We are also learning Angline the Baker. Preston is trying to
learn more dance tunes on the fiddle. We also have purchased and old old fiddle that has a lions head instead of a scroll on it. Preston always
wanted one of those as they were very common in the 1850-60s. In fact Daniel Emmett Decatur
the fellow who wrote Dixie had one. However the one we bought seems to be in bad
shape except for the "lions head". We will have Nick Richardson look at it. He may just graft the head on another fiddle.

We are also learning early Irish tunes for a proposed new CD.

AVENGERS PLAYED AT THE TOMBSTONE TALES
The PC Avengers played at the Tombstone Tales at old Fort Reno Oklahoma on Saturday Sept 30th 2006. It was a fun day talking with
and playing for all the folks who came to hear the "tales" of the people buried at the old fort cemetery. When we took this photo the folks were
taking their tours inside the cemetery walls behind us. We are standing in front of the Howells Texas Battery
reenactors display, one of the groups of which we are members.

AVENGERS PLAYED AT MUDDY BOGGY REENACTMENT!
The PC Avengers performed twice at the reenactment. Once for the Officers meeting. Jonathon Goering of the Free Staters
group was there and played and sang with us. Jonathon invited us to Kansas in Novmber for concert. Oh and the cigar-box fiddle was a big hit.
Actually sounded pretty good.

PC AVENGERS HAVE A NEW FIDDLE!
Tom and Preston always are on the lookout to impove on their authentic "sound". They had Nick Richardson, an Oklahoma City instrument craftman,
to re-create the famous civil war soldier built cigar-box fiddles. He did a wonderful job. Nick liked this project so much that he is considering
making other cigar-box fiddles for sale.
How does it sound? Well come see us and find out! Nick also made our beautiful 1853 fretless banjo copy.

AVENGERS PLAYED AT FT. WASHITA
On September 9th, 2006 the Avengers played for the Artillery School held at old Ft Washita near Madill Oklahoma.
Lots of food and fun!

AVENGERS PLAYED THE DANCE!
8/28/06
The Prairie County Avengers played for the Dance at the Battle of Perryville in McAlester OK August 26th, 2006. It was a good time and
lots of fun. However....it was HOT! Avenger Leonard Hartsfield came all the way to Oklahoma from Tennessee to sing with us. Tom was, as always, in
"fine form". Preston brought out the fiddle for this one. Our own, Lyssa (redhead left) called for the dance...great job. Lyssa invited Rebecca Ward
(blonde right) to the reenactment. This was her first 1860's dance. She had a great time being the "belle of the ball"! As we aready have a Rebekah,
she introduced herself as "also Rebecca". So we promptly gave her the nickname of A.R. Now...that...she didnt like as much as the dance!
Thanks to the good folks at the Perryville reenactment for having us...especially our good friend Jimmy Langley.

8/9/06 THE MANASSAS TOUR
The Prairie County Avengers played twice at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond Virginia, the Manassas Reenactment,
Stonewall Jacksons house at Lexington and at Brices Crossroads TN. It was great! We had alot of fun and met some nice folks back East!

Our friend Leonard Hartsfield helped us sing at the Museum of the Confederacy. In fact he has become an Avenger "associate". We have asked him to sing
on the upcomming civil war period Irish songs CD.

Take a look at the Museum of the Confederacy. Great place...we saw lots of very interesting exhibits!

NEW! We now have the t-shirts in a variety of sizes. Yes, we ordered some smaller sizes too this time. The image on the back is bigger this time..."may the chicken never be hatched that scratches on your grave". We got this quote from an old book of 19th century "toasts" we found at a flea market.
GO TO STORE!

On June 3rd 06 The Prairie County Avengers went to the Battlefire event at Tribbey Oklahoma.
We put on a program for the visitors and played for the dance.

The Prairie County Avengers have joined the Civil War Preservation Trust organization. We believe that the effort to
preserve our nation's Civil War heritage is an important one. look at their website www.civilwar.org

The Avengers went to the "Good Ol Days" in Anderson MO on the 29th and 30th of April. We had a little booth where we played
and sold Avenger items...CDs, shirts and Jaw harps. They had 4 stages with singing groups performing constantly. It was all
for a good cause...the Ronald McDonald House. We had a lot of fun and met some nice folks...then the rains came!
We were on stage at the time.

Long Live the Rebellion

When Tom and I were up in Missouri recently we went to see our ol friend...to visit and make an order. While there he showed
us some shirts that his wife is producing. "Viva La Rebellion" t-shirts are printed with the image of Capt William Anderson who
was one of the most legendary rebel guerrilla leaders in Missouri. (AKA- Bloody Bill) Pictured is Robert Serio famous civil
war replica shoemaker (his wife designs and makes the shirts) and Tom Morphew of the Prairie County Avengers. This is a cool shirt
I bought one myself for $15.00. sizes-S,M,L,XL black on grey. Preston
go here to order

This is the Ol King Crow Tavern- hdqtrs of the Prairie County Avengers.(not a real tavern) Tom Morphew, proprietor of the establishment

2/5/06 Here is the project that Tom and Preston were building. Its the Old King Crow Tavern. Its a place for Tom and Preston to entertain guests, hang out and have fun.

12/7/05 The Avengers played the 19th Texas dance at Old Fort Washita. We had a great time and the dancers did too! Note the 2 "orbs" above Toms head.
Orbs often show up in photos taken in the barracks at the old fort.

11/7/05 The Avengers played the Old Washington Stagecoach Inn Saturday night at the reenactment that was held there. Everyone seemed to be having a
good time. We sang ourselves hoarse.

11/7/05 The Priarie County Avengers have been honored by the Smithsonian in that they are now selling our music in their gift shop.

10/3/05 The Avengers just got back from the big national reenactment at Corinth MS. We had a great time. We gave a serenade to the "refugees" from the battle.
Thanks for all the good comments directed our way that we received at Corinth.

8/17/05 We performed at the Honey Springs reenactment-11:30 am Sunday Sep 25th. Tom had a hoarse throat but the performance went well.

8/17/05 We have recently added our CDs to the Jack Wells Art Studio in the Historic Stockyards in Oklahoma City.
He has a lot of western art with a Southern flavor...drop by..its on Agnew across from the famous Cattlemen's Cafe.

Tribbey Reenactment Dance 05

The above is a banner we have on several websites

6/26/05 The old-time gospel CD is here and for sale. Go to the Music on this website to hear some song samples!

You've got to walk that lonesome valley
Wayfaring stranger
There is a fountain filled with blood
Poor pilgrim of sorrow
There is a balm in gilead
Let's go down in the valley to pray
Sweet rivers of redeeming love
Roll jordan roll
Amazing grace
Nearer my god to thee
Ezekiel saw de wheel

8//10/05 Old-time gospel CD is getting good reviews from our vendors!

7/20/05 Dont forget to sign our guest book at the bottom of this page. We'd like to hear from you.

7/20/05 WELL, WE WENT TO HONEY SPRINGS AND PLAYED FOR THE DEDICATION. It was fun and we met some folks from England
who purchased some of our CDs to take back home. Also we were happy to see that our new gospel CD was well received.

6/13/06The Prairie County Avengers went to the Tribbey Reenactment last weekend. We were asked to play for the dance as we did in 04.
However...we didnt have a fiddler! You have to have a fiddler to carry the melody to play an old-time dance. Then 2 members of the "FreeStaters" band miraculously came to the rescue...Johnathon and Besty Goering (pictured above). Johnathon played a mean minstrel banjo and Besty played
the fiddle beautifully. She stood there and scratched out fiddle tunes out for hours. There were 43 couples dancin' from 7:00 till way after dark.
Not only did we work real hard but we had fun too.
Take a look at our new friends site...The FreeStaters.

5/26/05 The Museum of the Confederacy--
"Thanks very much for sending your cd's to us(for review). You referred to your
music as "humble", and in my opinion that's what makes it the most
appealing. Some of the recordings we have are a little overproduced,
and while the songs themselves are from that time I just can't
imagine them really sounding that way. Your versions sound a lot more
"authentic"."

5/24/05 The Smithsonian is reviewing our 3 CDs for possible sale in their gift shops! They were interested in the authenticity of the instruments
and song styling.
